Alfredo James Hair Design
Highlights in San Antonio.
Bright, defined dimension placed in foil, from a few face-framing pieces to full babylights, at our Stone Oak and Alamo Heights salons. Every highlight service includes a gloss or toner and a blowout finish.
What are highlights?
Highlights are fine sections of hair lightened in foil, placed close to the root for even, defined brightness throughout the hair.
Because each section is woven and sealed in foil, highlights give more uniform lift than hand-painted balayage. Babylights use much finer sections placed closer together, for brightness that looks soft and natural. Every highlight service is toned to your exact shade.

Questions
Highlights, answered.
How much do highlights cost at Alfredo James in San Antonio?
Partial highlights are $195 to $215, full highlights are $230 to $275 and full babylights are $275 to $325. Mini-foils are $100 to $120 when paired with a haircut, blowout or color service. Price depends on your artist’s level, and every highlight service includes a gloss or toner and a blowout finish.
What is the difference between highlights and babylights?
Babylights use much finer sections placed closer together than traditional highlights, so the brightness looks softer and more natural and blends more seamlessly as it grows out. Traditional highlights use larger sections for more defined brightness.
Should I get partial or full highlights?
Partial highlights brighten the top and around the face, where color shows most, for less upkeep. Full highlights place brightness all throughout the hair for even dimension from root to end. Your artist will recommend the right option for your hair and goals.
What is the difference between highlights and balayage?
Highlights are woven into foils and placed close to the root for even, defined brightness. Balayage is hand-painted and blended softly away from the root for lived-in dimension that grows out gradually, so it usually needs fewer touch-ups.
How often do highlights need a touch-up?
Because highlights are placed close to the root, regrowth shows sooner than with balayage. Your artist will recommend a maintenance schedule for your hair, and a root shadow add-on can soften the grow-out between visits.
Can I add lowlights to my highlights?
Yes. Lowlights can be added to any highlight service for $70 to $75, bringing depth and contrast back into the hair. A root shadow can also be added for $50 to soften the grow-out.
